COURSE INTRODUCTION
Over 5 million people in the UK are currently receiving treatment for asthma. The National Review of Asthma Deaths (NRAD) published by The Royal College of Physicians found that 46% of the deaths investigated in the inquiry could have been avoided if the available best practice guidelines had been followed. Experts and patient charities have called for an end to the complacency that surrounds asthma care whilst recognizing that patients themselves have a part to play inactively taking part in managing their condition.
This course is designed to give healthcare professionals new to asthma care an understanding of the prevalence and impact of asthma. Delegates will look at the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory tract, the pathophysiology and mechanism of asthma, current therapies both pharmacological and non-pharmacological. It will focus on the brilliant basics of asthma care, the importance of supported self-management and the organization and provision of care.
